Arcgis License File Location

Click Browse and locate the ArcGIS license file. Select the file and click Open. Click Next to import the license file. You will see a license file summary; click Next. When the update is complete, click Finish. Confirm that the License Manager location is set in ArcGIS Desktop Administrator, as follows. A message confirms that the licenses were successfully created. The license file, with a name such as ArcGISProAdvancedSingleUseXXXXXX.prvc, is downloaded to your default download folder. You can now use the license file to authorize ArcGIS Pro. You may want to move it to a network location where it is accessible to other users.

The following instructions apply if you use ArcGIS on a computer thatis not connected to the Indiana University network and are runningyour own license service. You will need administrativerights to your computer. Assuming you have already ARCHIVED: installed the ArcGIS license manager, to updateor reload your ArcGIS license file:

  1. Confirm that you have received the ArcGIS license file from a GISSupport Specialist, and that you have saved it to your computer. Youshould have received this file via email when you bought or renewedyour ArcGIS license. If you cannot locate it, email GISSupport.
  2. If you are using an ESRI sentinel key, confirm that it is pluggedinto your computer.
  3. From the Start menu, select All Programs,then ArcGIS, then License Manager, and finallyUpdate License.
  4. In the Update License window, click Next.
  5. Select I received the license file by email and havesaved it to disk.
  6. Click Browse and locate the ArcGIS license file. Selectthe file and click Open.
  7. Click Next to import the license file.
  8. You will see a license file summary; click Next.
  9. When the update is complete, click Finish.
  10. Confirm that the License Manager location is set in ArcGIS DesktopAdministrator, as follows:
    1. From the Start menu, select Programs, thenArcGIS, and then Desktop Administrator.
    2. In the ArcGIS Desktop Administrator window, selectthe License Manager folder.
    3. The name in the text box should be the hostname of yourcomputer. If it isn't, click Change, and then type yourcomputer's hostname. If necessary, see ARCHIVED: At IU, using ArcGIS, how do I correct the error'Hostname entered is invalid'?
    4. Select the Availability folder. You should see a list offeatures with expiration dates. Confirm that the date listed has notpassed. If you do not see any features listed, the license manager isnot running; see the instructions below.
    5. Click OK. To close the Desktop Administrator, clickOK again.

  11. Open the ArcMap application. ArcMap should open successfully.
  12. If you see a message, 'The desired vendor daemon is down.', theArcGIS license manager is not running. To start the service:
    1. From the Start menu or the desktop, right-click MyComputer and select Manage.
    2. On the left, expand the Services and Applicationsfolder, and then select Services.
    3. In the list of services, right-click ArcGIS LicenseManager, and then select Restart or Start(whichever is appropriate).
    4. Try opening ArcMap again.
