LEGO City: Undercover is an action adventure game created by Traveller's Tales studio. The production debuted in 2013 on the Nintendo Wii U console, and after years of conversion to other platforms.

Story

In a PC, PS4, etc. released, among others, on a platform. LEGO City: Undercover plays the role of Chase McCain, a police officer who returns to his hometown of LEGO City years later. His main task is to comprehend his nemesis - the villain who has the title of Rex Fury. In order to do this, the hero starts working under the title 'cover', infiltrating the mafia ranks from the inside. The plot is full of references to pop culture - a skilful eye will catch various references to Starsky and Hutch's adventures or the film Skazani na Shawshank. The whole was enriched with a solid dose of specific humour, characteristic for the productions created by Traveller's Tales.

Mechanics

LEGO City: Undercover on the PC platform, PS4 etc. is an open world game inspired mainly by the Grand Theft Auto cycle. The title city consists of twenty different districts, modelled on San Francisco and New York. The 'sandbox' built of blocks is mainly driven by various vehicles: we have at our disposal various cars, helicopters, boats and even wheelchairs. However, the player can explore LEGO City on foot, using a simplified parking system to jump over and bypass obstacles.

The core of the title is a dozen or so fictional tasks, with side missions waiting to be completed next to them. We take part in spectacular chases, police helicopter flights and other daring actions, taken directly from cult films from the eighties and nineties of the twentieth century. Because of Chase's profession, we often have to use a wide range of costumes, unlocked during the game. Disguises allow you to take advantage of special skills - for example, only in a miner's outfit can we break boulders using a pickax, and the clothes of a criminal provide the heros with the ability to open locks. An important element of the game is also the fight against the opponents - McCain perfectly copes with fist clashes, being able to lead effective attacks and counterattacks. There are also platform elements in the game, which can be seen for example during the collection of 'finds' scattered all over the city or when trying to gain access to secret locations. The variety of action-based gameplay is made up of uncomplicated environmental riddles.

In return for almost all the activities we get so-called 'pins' for the purchase of cars and 'blocks', the possession of which is a prerequisite for the construction of special superstructures such as helicopter landings, hills or sand castles; the erection of such objects is often required to push the plot forward. The whole is complemented by gadgets, such as an ambient scanner highlighting interactive objects.

Technical issues

LEGO City: Undercover features 3D graphics of decent quality. Noteworthy is the vivid palette of colors and refined environment created from the title blocks - many of its elements are susceptible to destruction and disintegrate into pieces in a spectacular way. Edition designed for the Nintendo Wii U console makes use of the unique gamepad functionality - equipped with an additional screen controller can serve as the aforementioned scanner, camera and a handy city map.
